Il Mexican standoff è una condizione di apparente stasi in cui più personaggi puntano una pistola contro un'altra; il più famoso esempio si trova nel film di Sergio Leone IL BUONO, IL BRUTTO, IL CATTIVO del 1966, in cui gli omonimi personaggi, interpretati da Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach e Lee Van Cleef, si affrontano in un mortale triello, come lo definì il regista.
