Thus, the knowledge of good and evil, history, which is neither gay nor innocent, is always faced with the ruthless oblivion of those who live, with its supreme humbleness.

And those who know keep quiet,

before their grace, which does not want to know.

Instead, silence is to blame.

May our wish for Tonino and Graziella be.

Ma davvero agli uomini interessa qualcos’altro che vivere?

Tonino e Graziella si sposano.

Del loro amore,

Essi sanno soltanto che è amore

Dei loro futuri figli,

sanno soltanto che saranno figli.

E’ soprattutto quando è lieta e innocente che la vita non ha pietà.

Due ragazzi italiani si sposano.

E in questo loro giorno,

tutto il male e tutto il bene precedenti ad essi sembrano annullarsi,

come il ricordo della tempesta nella pace.

Ogni diritto è crudele,

ed essi esercitando il proprio diritto ad essere ciò che furono i loro padri e le loro madri, non fanno altro che confermare, cari come sono alla vita, la lietezza e l’innocenza della vita.

Così la conoscenza del male e del bene, e la storia, che non è né lieta né innocente, si trova sempre difronte

a questa spietata smemoratezza di chi vive alla sua sovrana umiltà.

e chi sa tace

Difronte alla loro grazia che non vuole sapere.
