Il Cristo del Meridione*

Tra le opere filmiche del duo Felice D’Agostino/Arturo Lavorato la più riuscita mi pare Il Canto dei Nuovi Emigranti del 2005. Ricostruzione abbastanza originale della vita del poeta Franco Costabile (1924 – 1965).

 Cari registi non preoccupatevi, non sto qui a ricostruirla anch’io. Dirò solo che in Costabile, come in Pier Paolo Pasolini, la vita e l’opera poetica sono un tutt’uno. La fuga del padre, la fuga della moglie con le sue due bambine, il pensiero e la morte della madre, l’abbandono di Sambiase dapprima per Messina successivamente per Roma, la solitudine, sono causa di una lacerazione che sfocerà nel suicidio; tutto sarà riversato nella poesia che avrà come unico tema la Calabria, cantata come lotta per la vita che costringerà molti all’emigrazione.

La ricostruzione è condotta recuperando materiali d’archivio e interviste a quelli che più l’hanno frequentato o per meglio dire, ha frequentato Costabile. Sostanziosa è, infine, la parte originale che spetta ai registi con le immagini in DVCAM e, talvolta, recuperando la cinepresa e la pellicola Super 8 (senza dubbio superiore).  Così la Calabria è vista lungo la linea ferroviaria Reggio – Roma, attraverso il finestrino del treno in corsa, come per mezzo di landscapes, carpite durante la giornata, che fissano una terra mitica stravolta da ciò che chiamiamo progresso.

The reconstruction is performed by retrieving archival materials and interviews with those who have attended the most or rather , he attended Costabile . Hearty , finally, is the original part that belongs to the directors with the pictures in DVCAM , and sometimes recovering the camera and the film Super 8 (no doubt higher). So Calabria is seen along the railway line Reggio - Rome , through the window of the train, such as by means of landscapes , snatched during the day, securing a mythical land upset by what we call progress.
